Hera industries h6. $1800 APPROX

Coming soon to the US is Hera's H6 bolt action rifle in .223 REM or 300 BLK. It accepts PMAGs and feeds like the British Sten gun of WWII infamy (doubly odd being that this is a German company!). Among other features it has a folding stock and a full length rail (scope pictured above is just for demonstration). Hera were once known for their 1911 pistol chassis and with those preluded so many other companies who've come along with chassis systems for Glocks, Sigs and S&W's. The side mounted mag of the Sten was a brilliant idea allowing commando's to lie prone, close to the ground, and stalk in on the enemy without bumping the mag. The little machine gun could be kept close to the ground whilst firing, or rested on a berm and fired and reloaded whilst keeping a very low profile. Though Sten's were initially, notoriously jammy (issues of cheap manufacture mostly), they did improve with subsequent iterations and were carried by allied forces throughout the war. They've also graced the silver screen enough times to be part of our modern firearm psyche. But it's not just cool looking, it's a commonsensical design, especially for a bolt gun intended to be shot from the weeds or a grassy knoll. I've often wondered why this magazine configuration isn't incorporated more frequently in modern semiauto carbines - I suspect it has something to do with how we shoot as Americans: standing upright, offhand, braced, swinging vertical, emitting a war-cry and with balls to the battle come what may. Movies and training all bolster that heroic fearlessness. But in the real world, taking cover is an imperative to getting close to game, or, surviving more than a few gnarly seconds in combat (or hellish post-apocalyptic survival scenario).
